Summary of the Philosophy of Physics
Physics is an interesting branch of science dealing with how the world works. The main aim of modern physics is to explain how things move over time and space and understand how the universe acts. It studies matter, energy and their interaction. The word physics actually comes from the Greek words: Physics (speaker’s term),”phlogos” (a term derived from math ), and”Logikos” (a teacher’s term). The study of physics has become one of the main branches of study in most fields of study.
Physics deals with the laws that describe the presence and properties of objects and how these objects interact with one another. In layman’s terms, the analysis of physics deals with physical laws that describe the behaviour of atomic, molecular, and solid particles, as well as the large scale structure of the planet and the universe. There are two chief areas of study in contemporary physics: condensed mechanics and accelerated physics. With condensed mechanics, a group of physical laws is devised in order to give a description of the behaviour of atomic particles and also to provide a bridge between the physical theories and the physical processes they undergo. This method was used extensively in the early 20th century but was abandoned because of a lack of experimental results.
On the other hand, there is the field of accelerated physics that deals more with the analysis of macroscopical processes and using high-speed trains to study physical processes and the use of exotic materials to study physical properties. There’s also quantum physics, which deals with the idea that the entire world is governed by complex entities of sub atomic dimension. There are lots of sub branches of this area of study. Individuals who study in such fields use a variety of tools to make their task easier, but they all have in common the application of mathematics to solve problems.
The most popular theories in physics include those of classical mechanics, which have long been accepted as the standard theory of the world. Classical mechanics postulates that the only forces acting on any objects are electromagnetism and gravity. Additionally, it posits that these forces act equally on all matter. These theories were proven extremely successful as the first matter that we know about, namely the planets, stars, and various components that make up the earth and our bodies. The other well-known theories in physics are formulated by quantum mechanics, which are based on the odd behaviors of sub-atomic particles and the notion of the concept of relativity.
The predictions of the theories were verified experimentally over the past hundred years. Albert Einstein once said,”I can understand completely well the words of these men who say that science is progressive, but I am unable to understand the thoughts of those who say that science is progressive only in the sense that it offers a road to reach enlightenment.” Relativity shows us that the speed of light is independent of any matter that travels along it, and that it only bends when it comes in contact with an object. On the other hand, classical mechanics posits that induce acts mathematically the same way no matter what its magnitude is.
The biggest challenge of the Standard Model of Physics is that it does not have some test-performing particles or objects in its core. Aside from this, the Standard Model of Physics posits three unifying natural forces: electro magnetism & magnets, gravity, and the strong and weak atomic forces. Though these are the most popularly accepted theories of the physical laws, they’ve undergone several challenges from time to time. For instance, dark matter was found in 1990, giving science a new mystery to solve. Though not a component of the Standard Model, the Higgs boson provided scientists with the first tangible evidence of the presence of elementary mass in the universe.
